Tip Tuesday:A deep clean

I always say that if you’re gonna splurge, splurge on your skin. It’s SO important.
No makeup can make up for no skin care.
For the longest time I’ve been a huge fan of the Clarisonic. It seemes to get my skin feeling SUPER clean and I could tell when I didn’t use it for a couple of days my skin would really suffer!
A little while back, though, Sephora asked me if I’d like to team up with them and try out a few different skin care “tools” and of course, I’m always up for trying any thing new!
I decided to try the main one I’ve been curious about for a while now: the Luna Mini

I’ll admit, I was more than a little skeptical when I first laid eyes on it.
First of all it doesn’t look like it would do any scrubbing at all and it’s got an odd shape. I read a bunch of reviews and they were GLOWING so I got really curious. Another reason I felt skeptical is that I don’t have “sensitive” skin persay and I guess I tend to sort of avoid stuff for sensitive skin, like because it’s gentle it’ll be too wimpy for my burly skin or something…even though I’m fairly sure that’s not how things work.
Long story long. I tried it.
Aaaaaaand…
It rocked my world.

My skin was already on an upswing from the new cleanser & lotion I’ve been using (tune in tomorrow for more on that)
but I can say that since I started using the Luna my skin has gotten continuously better and right now I have a clearer complexion than I can recall ever having in my adult life!
I took this photo today for proof. I think you guys have seen enough of my bare skin to know it’s improved!

Here are a few other things (besides results) that I love about it:

No replaceable brush head. Heaven knows I have a tendency to forget to change mine often enough.
It’s small and cute.
The battery life lasts forever.

Have any of you tried it? Wanted to try it? What are your thoughts?

I got the mini (sorry I will clarify that in the post!) I’ve never tried the full size. And yes. I’m giving my Claritin away!

Thanks for clarifying :)! And it’s all I needed to know to go for a mini and try it! Maybe my Clarisonic will have to see the inside of a drawer from now on since my acne is not responding well (I’m 25, not cool.) And dry patches? They are laughing at it! And since I need them gone but the time my IIID Foundation gets here it’s even a better idea!! 😉 Thanks Cara!

I ordered a Luna last weekend and now I’m really excited to get it! I’ve heard the luna shines with absorption of serums and product and clarisonic for exfoliation, so my plan is to leave my clarisonic in the shower to use in the mornings and the luna for washing in the evenings when I really layer product on. Don’t give your clarisonic away yet, I’ve read lots of reviews that love and use both!! 🙂

Oh my gosh! You wouldn’t believe it but I was going to ask you had you tried this as I had Christmas money to spend and my Clarisonic had died. I didn’t want to hound you with the HAC launch being full on so I just bit the bullet and bought mine two weeks ago. I love it too. Exactly the same concerns you had about it maybe not being rough enough (what is wrong with us lol) but my skin is looking incredibly clear even when I would normally be getting hormonal breakouts 🙂

That’s so funny e are totally on the same page!!! And I was going to say the exact same thing about hormonal break outs but being this soon after having the baby I wasn’t sure if that was just my hormones calming down or not! So awesome!

Check out the reviews. Not all great. Esp if you have to pay for it. So is it really that great. I might say that also if I got it free. Steel product esp coming from someone like Cara. Just thinking out loud.

Wow. That’s kind of an offensive to imply that Cara is only saying good things about the product just because she got it for free. Anyone can tell from Cara’s blog and her own product line that she has a lot of integrity and truly cares about her readers and the trust they give her. She would never jeopardize that trust by doing a fake review just because she was given it for free. She makes no promises to do reviews on products, so if she got it and hated it she wouldn’t have reviewed it at all. If she took the time to review somethig, I have no doubt every word is her honest opinion. Sure, not every review on the luna is positive but that’s true of any product! MOST of the reviews sing it’s praises, which is exactly what Cara was pointing out.

I have both the luna and the clarisonic, and for me the luna wins hands down. The clarisonic is just too much for my sensitive skin, while the luna does a great job of cleaning and never irritates. I’ve had it for over a year now, and no regrets about the price.

I’m happy to know this! My Clarisonic is nearing the end of it’s long life and I wondered if I wanted to spend another 200 bucks on another? Perhaps there is something better? I wonder…do you have the mini or full size? Did you use the sensitive one? I have oily combination skin prone to blackheads that the Clarisonic helps but I wish for more. Perhaps your new skin cleanser and lotion is what I need! Can’t wait to hear about that tomorrow. Thanks, cara! This is my first comment but I follow you closely and just love you!

By “battery life lasts forever,” do you mean it doesn’t need to be charged or plugged in? I own and love the Clarisonic: would you say that the Foreo is equal to or better than the Clarisonic? I’m being drawn in by the lack of brush heads to keep replacing every few months.

Your skin looks fantastic! I have been stuck in the same skin care routine for way too long and it’s just not working anymore. I have rosacea and my skin is dry and flaky. I just use Clinique 7 day scrub cream, which only gets rid of half of my flakes. I’m wondering if either of these tools are good for exfoliation or are they really geared toward blackheads and breakouts? And info/suggestions from anyone would be appreciated. Have a great day!

I almost have rosacea and the Clarisonic changed my life! So much so, that I don’t even need to use scrubs anymore. I’m sure any of the high tech cleansers will help you 🙂

I also have rosacea and combination skin that is prone to spots of flakiness. I’ve used the Clarisonic (sensitive brush head) for a year, and it has improved the rosacea and I never have flakiness anymore. Another product that I use and which, I think, has helped my skin even more are these once-weekly acid peel wipes by Trish McAvoy: http://www.amazon.com/Trish-McEvoy-Brighten-Professional-Multi-Acid/dp/B00I7UY6H8/ref=sr_1_35?ie=UTF8&qid=1422466811&sr=8-35&keywords=trish+mcevoy. Expensive, but worth it for me. You can also extend them by cutting the pads in half, thereby making each pad last two weeks.

Your skin DOES look AMAZING!! I have the Clarisonic, but I didn’t really shop around for anything else because I’ve always heard such great things about it. I wish I would have known about this because I do have extremely sensitive skin which even the clarisonic irritates a bit…. Time to save up and talk my hubby into another purchase!!

oh, how I’d love to try this! or any of them for that matter…but the price tag was a shocker (which typically is on a lot of those sorts of products) I’m a mom of 4 boys so my wants/needs for things like this always go to the back burner and I ultimately never end up buying.

I got this recently because I started experiencing more acne than I had in high school (hello, 30’s!). I got the Luna Mini and changed my skincare products to the Clinique Acne Solutions line. I did both of those things at the same time so I’m not positive what caused the changes, but I have seen huge improvements in my skin. My skin feels so smooth and soft and the texture is amazing. I charged it fully when I got it before Christmas and I haven’t had to charge it since. After I use it, I wash it with a little liquid castile soap and it’s good to go. I think it’s great and love that there are no expensive replacements to purchase!

I am the worst about cleaning my face. I am normally so tired at the end of the day that I just go to bed with my makeup on and wash it in the bath the next morning. I did have the Clarisonic but I ended up giving it to my sister because she has bad breakouts and it didn’t do a lot for me. Maybe I will give this a try and hope it keeps me motivated to wash my face at night.

I’ve been needing to switch up my current skincare routine because my skin has become flaky and is breaking out. Your review is awesome and the Luna Mini looks like it could be just what I need. After reading this and the Sephora reviews, I’m pretty much sold. My Clarisonic just isn’t doing for me what it did five years ago, plus even with the sensitive brush head I can’t use it more than twice a week because it’s just too harsh. Thanks for the review!

The regular size has the anti aging setting for fine lines and wrinkles, and holds a longer charge (which is like 2x/year so NBD anyway). But the anti aging part was important to me so I bought the regular one~

Sephora also sells a hand held (manual) silicone cleansing pad that they sell for 6.00, or a hand held cleansing brush for less than 10.00. Kind of like primitive versions of the luna and clarisonic, much more budget friendly and a good way to see if you’d like to splurge. I personally use the sephora cleansing brush and I love it, sure I have to manually move the brush in circles around my face but it cleans really well and saved me around 100.00+ dollars.

Cara I was curious if you experienced any initial breakouts when using? I have a Clarisonic which I love, but I read so many great reviews I took the plunge on the Foreo Luna. I have the blue one, which I think is for oily skin. My skin feels super clean, but I started getting small whiteheads and bumps under the skin which is unusual for me. I LOVE using the other side to massage skincare products into the skin with the sonic action, but I’m not sure if that might be causing the bumps, or the cleansing action. Sometimes you experience a little bit of a breakout clearing things out, but I have been afraid to stick with it for fear it is causing breakouts. I’m encouraged by your results, maybe I just need to stick with it a little longer. Breakouts are so frustrating! 🙂 Love your blog.

I love my Luna. I am not usually to splurge just like that without having the ability to feel it beforehand, but something took over me when I bought the Luna. Never looked back. I think you will like the bigger version more 😉

Oh dear. Can I make a confession? I have never in all my life had a face-washing routine. When I was a teenager I never had acne and so I didn’t feel the need. Now I’m living in Arizona and my skin is starting to feel… wrong. I’m not breaking out but there’s just something going on (I’m so ignorant on this that I can’t even tell what’s wrong exactly). My cheeks are redder than ever and no matter how hard I try my makeup always seems to look flakey. Is there already a post about skin care for the TOTAL newbie? And if there isn’t, any tips?

Do you ever use these tools a couple days after you have applied a self tanner? I am so pasty that I apply self tanner about twice a week. I’m worried that it would take the self tanner off….or is that not the case? I’d love to have really clean skin and some color, but not sure if that’s possible???

I’ve had a mini pink one for quite a while! I’m a member of BzzAgent, and i think sometime last year they had a campaign to try it out, and I was selected to join. I only had to pay 40 dollars for it (uh, yeah, what a deal). I LOVE IT. Like, ADORE IT. I’m 24 years old and I have very delicate, sensitive skin. This makes my face feel so fresh and clean and doesn’t irritate it or feel too harsh at all. Such a great use of 40 bucks. I would honestly buy it at full price, its that good.

I LOVE my Clarisonic. So much that I just upgraded to their new Smart Profile and am more in love than before. The only time I notice issues with breakouts or dryness is when I get lazy about using it. That said, I’ve been eying this for some time and definitely interested in giving it a try. May end up being a great option for travel!

Ok so I promised feedback once I’d seen any sort of result either way. It’s day two with my new Foreo Mini Luna, so I’ve use it only 3 times…and I am already seeing results. I was totally sceptical, regretted it as soon as I’d handed over the credit card, but you’re right I would splurge on my skin if nothing else. (I had wine at lunch in the department store before i bought it which also helped!)

How can something so small and seemingly non cosmetic do SO much? I’m still baffled. I didnt notice any change the first day, but today WOW! The vibration makes your face instantly plump up and glow, I swear those little nodules get right up in your pores and clear them out literally immediately. I have no redness, my skin is brighter and more even toned and just “feels” great. I can honestly say I’ve NEVER felt like my skin felt GREAT before. I’ve suffered acne, major dry, major oily, all of those combined, cracky make-up (both tanner and make up went on like never before today!), redness, enlarged pores the lot. Not today…I’m blown away!

Get this for weird too, I thought this morning before I did a speck of make up, that my nose looked smaller after using this haha!! Sounds stupid I know but I think the amount of crap it must have cleared out of my pores around that area, I must have lost about a millimetre frmo my T Zone just from that alone! I use a creamy hot cloth cleanser by Liz Earle which Ive used for about a year does a much better job vibrated into your face with this little beauty that just rubbed in with fingers then wiped off. BUY IT!!! thank you Cara!

Ok I’m an idiot but how do you use it?? I don’t use clarisonics or anything. It to harsh on my skin and makes me break out. So I’m guessing I should try this but do I use it with a cleanser or what? Cara or anyone using this could you tell me what your routin at night is?? Thanks!!

Its basically a medium of applying cleanser to your face. I rub cleanser over my face and neck then “buzz” it in with the Luna, then with a warm wet muslin cloth I wipe it all off then mousturise as usual. Its like a rubber brush basically…xx
