I remember clearly my first day of 6th grade because my mom said I could wear some mascara and lip gloss to school if I wanted it to accompany my striped Hang Ten top and henna necklace. It was a glorious milestone.
I still don’t think school requires much more than that (even if you’re in college – or if you’re just taking your kids to school!) so here is an idea that’s as easy as pie and only takes 4 products but still makes a wow impression.
(I started with IID foundation in Dark, you can start with that, tinted moisturizer, or just go bare skinned!)
Products:
1. Too Faced BTS Mascara
2. MAC Brun Eyeshadow
3. Eyeko Brow Gel
4. Jolie Maran Argan Infinity Lip and Cheek in Always Cherry I am IN LOVE with this stuff! Perfect for a punch of color that still looks natural somehow!?
1. Apply a nice coat of mascara to top and bottom lashes
2. Fill those brows!
3. Lightly brush your brow hair up with some brow gel, this will define them and keep them in place!
4. Dab some blush into the apples of your cheeks and tap in a circle until its fully blended
5. Dab the same blush into your lips and pat!
SUPER simple but such a great way to play up your beautiful features without much time or heavy looking makeup:)

August 14, 2014 at 2:10 amI love this look, Cara! Would you recommend the “Always Cherry” or a different shade for fair skin?
Chantel
August 14, 2014 at 4:00 amOr darker shades?
Cara
August 14, 2014 at 5:25 amI think the always cherry would look beautiful on fair skin as we’ll! It’s a nice sheer color so I don’t think it would be too much! 🙂

August 14, 2014 at 2:12 amI’m going to have to try some brow gel! I’ve been using hairspray on my brows for YEARS. This would probably be more effective 🙂
Cara
August 14, 2014 at 5:26 amIt really is awesome! I was just like you but then I started using it regularly and now I don’t think I’ll ever go back!

August 14, 2014 at 2:34 amhow well does the lip gel stay on? Any long wearing lip stain you’d reccomend? I always forget to reapply lipstick, and lean toward the longer wearing…
Lidia
August 14, 2014 at 4:23 amI second what Elise said ^ I’m wondering how the JM Infinity Lip & Cheek wears ont he lips throughout the day. Is it long lasting? does it leave a subtle stain behind? I always forget to reapply lipstick too!
BTW, This one one of my favorite looks on you Cara. So simple, yet absolutely gorgeous!
Cara
August 14, 2014 at 5:56 amBTW thank you so much!!!
Cara
August 14, 2014 at 5:28 amIt’s not as long wearing as other stains I’ve used but since I an pretty dry and live in a dry climate it doesn’t bother me much! Id probably say skip it if you’re wanting the stain power of say a taste lip surgence:)
LMM
August 15, 2014 at 1:40 amThe absolute longest wearing lip stain I’ve found is the Revlon Colorburst one, the balm stain. It lasts forever – overnight if you don’t specifically remove it! And I think the Smitten color looks good on everyone, but they have a good range of shades.

August 14, 2014 at 3:14 amHow does the Josie Maran tint compare to Bene tint or Posie tint? I looooove Posie tint, but have a hard time shelling out $30 for such a small bottle.
Cara
August 14, 2014 at 5:30 amI feel the same way! Why is it so teensy!? It’s closer to the poise tint but more of an oil/gel texture so I don’t think it lasts as long!

August 14, 2014 at 3:16 amI bought this lip & cheek gel but ended up returning it. It had absolutely no staying power regardless of how I set it (powder blush over the top, setting spray, mineral veil). I know her products are getting a lot of buzz right now but I have returned the two that I have purchased so far. I love this look though and wish I were brave enough to leave the house without foundation and concealer.
Cara
August 14, 2014 at 5:39 amI ended up returned her other cheek blush that came in the tub for the same reason! I thought this one had much more staying power though but I live in a dry climate so things tend to stay put better! Thank you for letting me know! And PS I am TOTALLY wearing IIID foundation in this post! If I leave the house with anything at all it’s gotta be concealer or foundation! haha

August 14, 2014 at 3:57 amThis is a beautiful natural look that I love, but I think this post is misleading – you’re clearly wearing foundation, under eye concealer and have contoured. While the products you mention DO look great, this just doesn’t feel honest to me to claim you only threw on these four!
Cara
August 14, 2014 at 5:45 amThank you so much for mentioning this! I totally am wearing foundation in the photo and I really didn’t mean to be misleading I just had younger girls in mind and wanted to make it simple for them! I added the foundation detail above though because I agree it isn’t good to not add that.

August 14, 2014 at 4:10 amI have a question for you Cara– I have brows that I consider to be pretty dark already, do I need to fill those in? You have mentioned that we should be using a slightly lighter color on brows- would my best bet be to go to sephora or a make up counter to have someone help me choose a color?! Thanks!
xo
Jamie @ SnapGinger
Cara
August 14, 2014 at 5:34 amIt’s totally up to you! If you feel like they are dark enough and thick enough for your comfort than lucky you! You can skip that step! And then if you want to get really spiffed up you can always fill them in. I don’t always think the color should be a shade lighter though..it depends on of you have sparse areas (in which case I say get a color that is as close to exactly your brow color as possible!) it never does hurt to stop by sephora and get matched though !

August 14, 2014 at 6:04 amDo you have any tutorials on gel blush?…..I’ve always used powder but am fastly approaching 40 and think maybe cream blush will give me a fresh look but it’s so intimidating!
Cara
August 14, 2014 at 6:49 amI use creme or gel blush in almost all of my looks! I love applying it with a stipple brush (like the E.L.F. one you can get from target and just tap it into my skin. It’s super simple! Do not be afraid!

August 14, 2014 at 6:34 amHey Cara, I was wondering… do you have an approximate date on when you’ll be getting more of the IIID Foundation in Medium back in stock?
Cara
August 14, 2014 at 6:35 amYes! We are looking at end of September, I haven’t announced it yet because there have already been so many delays that I don’t want to get myself in trouble but as soon as an exact date is confirmed I will open presales!

August 14, 2014 at 6:53 amI totally agree about the Josie Maran cheek product you featured–it does look super natural, while at the same time providing a pop of bright colour. Perfect for the summer, but also for a fresh faced ‘back to school look’! 🙂

August 14, 2014 at 7:36 amThank you for this post. My daughter is starting preschool in a few weeks and we will have to leave much earlier than we are used to, especially since I also have her little brother to get ready too. This will be a nice easy way to get out the door fast and still look amazing!

August 14, 2014 at 11:02 amHi Cara, thank you for all your great make-up posts! I look forward to reading them every day!! I was wondering if you might have an opinion in foundation for people with really oily skin. As in what kind, liquid, cream to powder, mineral? Or maybe what kind of setting powder after? I tend to break out easy and I am currently using a mineral foundation but my skin is just so oily. After an hour of putting it on I am very shiny and look like I am melting 🙁 I was just curious if you could help- thanks!

August 14, 2014 at 1:41 pmI would love some recommendations for oily skin too! Absolutely nothing stays put on my face and I’m in my 40’s—wrinkles and oil = YUCK!! It is so irritating. I used to actually go home at lunch in HS and reapply my makeup because I had bad acne and my oily skin made it a mess by noon. Now I’m not as obsessive, but it is so frustrating to always look like an oil-slick 10 minutes after meticulously applying makeup. I have had some success with the Miracle Skin transformer under my foundation. It seems to smooth things out and keep the oil down a bit. I use Armani Maestro liquid and set it with Mac Studio Fix Powder foundation because I need coverage. I still have to blot all day though. Mineral makeup seems to make the oil look worse–especially in pictures.

August 15, 2014 at 1:51 amI’m not Cara, I just write about her 🙂 But! I do have very oily skin, and the #1 product I can recommend is Urban Decay’s De-Slick spray. Sephora carries a small size so you can try it before paying $30 for the full size, which sounds crazy but it lasts a long time and is TOTALLY WORTH IT if your skin is oily. Now, it doesn’t prevent shine so much as it somehow binds your makeup to your skin – use a little powder if you think you’re shiny, then spray. I know Cara loves the All-Nighter, which also works well but the De-Slick is the bomb if you’re an oily girl. It’s my desert island product.
I also think a primer – an inexpensive option is the Maybelline Baby Skin, which you can find for $5-8 at the drugstore – is good for oily skin, since it provides a barrier between your makeup and your skin.

August 14, 2014 at 11:35 amWow, you were allowed to wear some mascara and lip gloss to school in 6th grade? When I was in the 8th grade I snuck into my older sister’s room on school mornings and quickly applied some of her foundation and mascara before she got out of the shower. 🙂 I didn’t dare add any color cosmetics because I didn’t want to get caught! I was determined though to do at least that much so I could feel like I looked better, which a guy in my 1st period class told me I looked good with mascara. I was SO happy when he told me that!! I was grinning like a fool. 🙂 I had to do this at 5:30 in the morning because my sister went to Seminary before school, so I was tired but it was totally worth it!!!! I’d do it all over again. My mom was completely against me wearing makeup in the 8th grade, though. So I rushed home to wash it off in the bathroom before my mom could bust me, but one afternoon I didn’t do as great a job at makeup removal as I thought. My mom saw me coming out of the downstairs bathroom and asked me what was wrong with my face. I told her nothing, I just washed it. She noticed the black smudges under my eyes and gave me a lecture about how I wasn’t allowed to wear makeup. Whoops! But I kept wearing it anyway. In the 9th grade I was finally allowed to wear makeup! Yay! Good thing too cuz I started to get acne. 🙁

August 14, 2014 at 12:00 pmLove this post! I am very much out of school at this point in my life, but I love this casual look for the office too! I have been eyeing up that Josie Maran Argan cheek color for a little bit now, and I may have to cave the next time I pop into Sephora 😀

August 14, 2014 at 1:33 pmI’ve learned a lot so far in eye school….hoping you’re going to go over eyeshadow application on the outer corner of the eye that helps create depth?? I think that’s the look I have the most trouble with

August 14, 2014 at 3:49 pmHi Cara,
I love this look. I have to say, with your new lighter hair, I think you need to go a shade lighter on your brows. This is the first post where I could tell they were drawn on and I think the lighter hair is the difference.
I still love the look though! Thanks for everything you do. You are an amazing person. I can’t tell you how much you have changed the way I do my makeup and the way I look. All for the better. People think I am in my 30s instead of 40s, which is what I am. 🙂

August 15, 2014 at 3:43 pmI always really enjoy your posts, especially about new beauty routines but it would be nice to show the final look as it would really look. I know you added the fact you started out with foundation, but leaving out the fact you are contoured to perfection definitely makes this impractical. If I could look like that with only four steps I’d be so happy, unfortunately I cannot.
Cara
August 15, 2014 at 4:13 pmThat’s actually the coolest thing about the IID foundation it’s contouring and foundation in one. I created it because I really wanted contouring to be more practical for everyday use:)
Boni
August 16, 2014 at 10:19 amHi Cara! Yes, your system helps to make formerly impractical things more practical. That is the beauty of it! Not to mention excellent super wearable colors and many many satisfied clients. 🙂 If someone wants to go bare faced they certainly can as you mentioned, or they can use their own favorite liquid or mineral foundation and add mascara, multipurpose lip and cheek color and voila! Your makeup creation can definitely help make the contour quick and easy if a gal feels like contouring that day & add the simple basics of mascara and lip/cheek color. All good options and all great choices! It’s just a personal preference. 🙂 It’s a beautiful look, Miss Cara! Just choose Easy Option A with the contour or the Easy Option B without contour. Either way it’s a win-win as I see it. Cara, I don’t know where you find the time to generously share your visions of loveliness with us, but it sure is awfully appreciated!! You don’t have to do all this for us, but you do. I for one am very grateful for all the time and care you always put in to helping us, and you don’t even know us. You’re a very giving person, Cara, and I think it’s just remarkable. Your heart is always the basis of everything you do. I’m sure it’s not easy having a blog and trying so hard to please everyone. As long as you’re pleasing yourself it will always work. That’s all you need to do! Just keep doing what you’re doing! Lots of love and admiration for you! 🙂 Have a tremendous day!!! Xoxo

August 17, 2014 at 9:48 pmHey Cara, my eyes dropped out when I saw your change! But I want to ask you if you dont have a problem with orange glint on the sun?? Because when I changed from dark brown/black to light tones it looks a little bit orange and I was really nervous of that.. now I am blonde but your brown hair with soft cool highlights makes me think about it! It makes you a little bit more famous 🙂 many thanks forward and sorry for my english!

August 19, 2014 at 9:50 amI just became a mom and realized that time is of the essence. So when you wrote aboaut the Josie Maran creamy oil cheek and lip stain I just had to have it! I bought it the same day the blog came out! Question though, how do you apply it? Could you possible do a tutorial on this product?
