As you may already know (insta followers I’m looking at you)
I’m having second thoughts….waaaaaayyyyyyy too late…
About being blonde.
What do you do when you thought you wanted to be a blonde but you think maybe your heart thinks you are actually a brunette? And you feel like you have to work twice as hard to feel half as pretty.
What if you know you should just wait out the summer but in less than two weeks you have a photo shoot, the photos of which will be in ALLURE MAGAZINE and you think maybe those photos should be of a brunette Cara?
A. Cry about your blonde hair until you see this link that cheers you up, but you still don’t know what to do…
B. Stay blonde. You’ve come this far…
C. Just do what makes you feel prettiest, I hope you learned your lesson though.
D. Go back dark cause, Duh.
On a side note, how cute is my dad? (in case you wondered, his vote is for the dark:)
Seriously though go to this link regardless because it is a day maker.

June 20, 2013 at 4:19 amDark! It looks best on you even though you’re one of those lucky girls that can go either way! I love you more as a brunette! π
Rachel
June 20, 2013 at 9:37 amI agree! Both look gorgeous on your skin tone. But your dark hair makes your blue eyes pop and SPARKLE!

June 20, 2013 at 4:21 amYou are lovely, with any color. But always follow your heart.

June 20, 2013 at 4:23 amDo whatever makes you feel beautiful! I went “ombrΓ©” at the very end of may, because I absolutely LOVE the look. I already want to go back to dark after looking at older (a few weeks ago) pictures of myself. Like you, I want to wait it out till the fall, but when you want something…. Yup, you just gotta do it now!

June 20, 2013 at 4:26 amDark! You’re beautiful either way, but there’s something about the dark hair…
lovealwayshannah
June 20, 2013 at 4:27 amI totally get it… I feel that way about being blonde. If in your heart you’re a brunette… then go for it! You’re gorgeous either way… but you want to feel like yourself π
Marie
June 20, 2013 at 4:30 amWhatever makes you feel the best about yourself – that’s what it’s all about.

June 20, 2013 at 4:34 am1) Hair color can’t diminish your gorgeousness. 2) When you are fussed and primped over by Allure’s photo-shoot team, you will likely feel so fancy that your hair color won’t matter that much. 3) If you’re crying over your hair, do something! Blonde or brunette — red puffy eyes are not a good look!
Elizabeth Sullivan
June 20, 2013 at 4:40 amDark. You are beautiful either way, but the darker hair makes you stand out!!
Julie
June 20, 2013 at 4:40 amBlonde was beautiful, and looked fun and summery on you, but brunette makes you come alive. π You’d look gorgeous in any color!
Brooke
June 20, 2013 at 4:43 amI went blonde, well not all the way… I had a ton of blonde balayage done. Thankfully it was ombre style so I can just cut my hair. It’s going to take a few haircuts though because it went pretty far up and I can not pull off a short cut. First trim is this morning!
Jen
June 20, 2013 at 4:45 amGo dark, you learned your lesson.
And that video did make my day. Thanks!!!!

June 20, 2013 at 4:49 amYou’re gorge either way, BUT you’re unstoppable as a brunette!

June 20, 2013 at 4:53 amOkay, I’m just going to say something: it sounds like you’re trying to tell yourself that it’s okay to dye your hair now because you’re going to be in Allure magazine but let me play devil’s advocate here. You are already blonde on Allure’s website (look at your gorgeous photo! http://blogger-awards.allure.com/winner-page/), so 1) isn’t that what people would expect to see, 2) a ton of people have already seen you in that color on this blog and on Allure’s website so does it really matter if you change your hair color for the print photo?, and 3)aren’t you going to have bad hair days forevas if you dye your hair back now? I’m totally not saying you shouldn’t do go back because I thought your dark hair looked great, and I was pretty shocked that you went blonde and that it totally worked, but it’s kind of like every girl who has long hair and wants to cut it short. You think you’re ready for a change, you think you’re sick of it, and then you do it and you regret it maybe not immediately but for sure you do. So I think you should take your time with this decision. Don’t rush it because of an upcoming photo shoot. There’s so much time for all of the beautiful looks. You can be blonde and enjoy it and still enjoy looking at picture of you dark and still enjoy it knowing you will go back dark. And there’s no way you look half as pretty. Big fan here, k? You are twice as beautiful as you give yourself credit for. Remember that.
Sam
June 20, 2013 at 5:05 amI agree with Jennifer! Don’t rush something just for a photo shoot. You are so amazing at what you do, there will be plenty of photo shoots in the future to be brunette for! π You are beautiful blonde AND brunette!
Melanie
June 20, 2013 at 10:24 amI’m third-ing this! You look ahh-mazing either way, and I will excitedly get Allure just to see you in it because I’ve grown to love you and your awesome personality that much! Plus, you know, so much hard work to get blonde, at least let it grow on you a while- for the summer at the least. Don’t worry what people will think, we will love you no matter what (: (P.S. you kinda gave me a heart attack with the first misleading line, lol)! xx
Sharron
June 20, 2013 at 11:43 amI think you look amazing as both! I feel this way about my hair often too, that I want to do a drastic change, but I also know its way harder to go blonde. And now that you’re there and all the work you and your friend did to get there, But I like the blonde. It just seems as though you have grown into the blond with your blog and I’ll be sad to see it go. But seriously both look good!!!
Loly
June 20, 2013 at 12:47 pmTotally agree with Jennifer here. You’re gorgeous but I think I like blonde better. But besides that, I’m thinking about all the damage to your hair that another coloring will do. And the photo shoot for Allure is probably going to be the first of many to come, so you have plenty of time to change your hair and you hair does not define you (believe me: I’m a natural redhead in Chile, Latin America; so for most of my life I’ve felt pretty determined by the color, not anymore though: I determine me!!)
Have a great time in New York!
Anouk
June 21, 2013 at 3:16 amBlonde blonde blonde! π
Lori
June 21, 2013 at 10:18 amtotally agree with jennifer! You look fabulous both ways and you have only just changed (pot calling kettle I have done the same many times). Give the blonde a chance and you will look wonderful in allure as YOURSELF REGARDLESS OF HAIR COLOUR! Your posts brighten our days like little presents in our different worlds and now you (not just your hair) will be shared with a nation! Stand proud girl as you are-yourself!:-)
Kimberly B.
June 20, 2013 at 4:53 amI literally go through the blonde vs brunette battle every summer! Brunette always wins out (usually because the process of becoming blonde for me involves lots of damage and no matter how hard I try, brassiness π )I think both looks are great on you! Gotta go with your gut on this one, girl π
Elizabeth
June 20, 2013 at 5:03 amDo what feels most like you in your heart and makes you feel the most Cara : ) just to echo nearly every comment on here, you are gorgeous every way my dear. Be your best you!! Xoxo
Lilit
June 20, 2013 at 5:05 amOh absolutely do C & D which to me sound like the same thing in terms of what you’re thinking. And I must admit I love the dark hair as well, it really makes the rest of your features stand out more. I vote dark!
Jennifer
June 20, 2013 at 5:08 amWhile I love blonde hair and am blonde myself, I love to see girls who can pull off a super dark color and girl, that is you. The dark looks AH-MAZING on you.
Michelle
June 20, 2013 at 5:09 amDear Cara,
Just do whatever makes you happy.
Life is too short to be unhappy. Period!

June 20, 2013 at 5:10 amDark seems to fit you better. You are stunning either way but that dark hair makes your eyes POP!

June 20, 2013 at 5:18 amCara~ First of all you could be bald and still be Gorgeous! You can rock blonde or brunette, so whatever you decide, you will be stunning! Second of all, I should not have looked at that link while I have PMS because I was laughing and crying at the same time. The old man with the kitty put me over the edge! Thanks for always being awesome and brightening up my day! π
Karina!
June 20, 2013 at 5:20 amYou seem to be going through what I go through a lot. I keep dying my hair blonde, then missing how I look with dark hair because I KNOW I look better (as do you) with dark hair, but then I want a change and go blonde again anyway! ARGH!
I vote Dark, Dark hair suits everyone and makes your eyes contrast against it
Heather Ferguson
June 20, 2013 at 5:23 amI went much lighter last summer and regretted it immediately. I lived with it for 3 months, but looking back, I spent way too much of my summer thinking about how much I disliked my hair. If I could do it again, I would have just gone back to dark and moved on. Good luck with your decision! P.S. You’re completely gorgeous either way, and you’ll rock the photo shoot either way!
Emma
June 20, 2013 at 5:28 amI think you are stunning with dark hair. It’s so striking with your pretty skin!! I would just dye it back dark I I was you π
April C
June 20, 2013 at 5:30 amI went blonde for about a year. Then I saw pictures of myself as a brunette, had second thoughts, and went back to the dark side. Now I look at pictures of my blonde self and kick myself for not keeping it. You look beautiful either way
kartasi
June 20, 2013 at 5:34 amGo back to dark! My mom always said you look best with the hair color God intended you to have and I’ve seen very few instances where she’s wrong.
Anna
June 20, 2013 at 5:35 amCara – You ARE beautiful either way. You look striking with dark hair. Ive noticed – No one has commented yet and said “keep the blonde! it’s so much better!” If you will exhale and feel more like yourself – go back! And don’t feel bad. We are allowed to change our minds! π
Shelly
June 20, 2013 at 5:36 amAbsolutely 100% do whatever makes you feel the prettiest! π
Melanie
June 20, 2013 at 5:36 amDo whatever makes you feel prettiest! You’re absolutely stunning in any hair color.
Nicole
June 20, 2013 at 5:41 amGorgeous either way for sure! But I love you with dark hair!
Lindsay C.
June 20, 2013 at 5:44 amgo for the blonde! change is always good:) i went blonde about a month ago & im a natural brunette. i had doubts for the first week but its summer so its acceptable to be a blonde bombshell! you will look beautiful whichever color you choose!
Emilie
June 20, 2013 at 5:44 amCara, mistakes teach us and lead us to where we need to be. Do the “coin toss” Flip a coin, heads brunette, tails blonde. The result of the toss doesn’t matter – but your reaction to it does. So if it lands heads up and you feel a huge relief, then brunette it is! Do whatever makes you feel “you” and beautiful.
Natalee
June 20, 2013 at 5:46 amI think there’s no competition — you look SO GREAT as a blonde. I do like the dark, but I was blown away by how good the blonde looked. But … do what you gotta do and a we’ll love you anyway. π
Anita
June 20, 2013 at 5:46 amYou look beautiful either way but I do like the dark color on you.
Brittany
June 20, 2013 at 5:46 amGo back to dark! You look pretty with blonde hair but STUNNING with the dark hair! I was actually a little bummed when you went blonde cause I liked your dark hair so much. I have naturally dark brown/black hair and enjoyed seeing all your makeup tutorials and outfit choices with the dark hair!
Alissa C
June 20, 2013 at 5:52 amGo back to dark, you are a beautiful blonde but a stunning brunette.
Sarah ~ Just So Lovely
June 20, 2013 at 6:01 amI actually LOVE the blonde on you! It looks so light and fresh… That said, you have to do what feels right for you, obviously. I’ve been through the exact opposite situation where I went as dark as you usually are, and I’m naturally very fair and blonde. I loved it at first and then hated it! I’ve sworn I’ll never do it again- but now I know. Go back to the dark but know that you look great either way. Now you’ll just love the brunette even more than you did before!
Jessica Stuch
June 20, 2013 at 6:02 amDefinitely go back to the dark hair! It’s so much more stunning on you with your light eyes. I have dark hair and always wished I had green or blue eyes instead of brownies. So rock that dark hair! Also, the makeup tutorials when you have dark hair always give me a better idea of what that makeup may look like on me…Yes, I know that’s selfish…but whatevs. LoL Good luck with your decision!
Elizabeth Hayes
June 20, 2013 at 6:05 amI vote brunette!!!! π
JoAnn Martens
June 20, 2013 at 6:06 amI think you need to do what makes you feel the best, but I LOVE the look you have in this link: http://blogger-awards.allure.com/winner-page/. Maybe you could post some side by sides. I personally like the lighter look–it’s not too blonde–it’s gorgeous!
Kate
June 20, 2013 at 6:15 amDark!!!! It looks sooo beautiful in your wedding photos! And it will look lovely with bronzed summer skin! π
Amy
June 20, 2013 at 6:15 amI love the blonde! Much more natural and fresh. I remember a post you did awhile back saying you had to wear less makeup now with your lighter hair. Your skin tone looks beautiful with the light hair. I read a celebrity hairstylist say the most flattering haircolor on a person is what they had as a child. Please stay blonde!
Katie
June 20, 2013 at 6:23 amDearest Cara, I would say “C” – just remember that your blog teaches all women to know and recognize their beauty no matter what “flaws” they see in themselves… of course the hair is just an “option” that you look so beautiful in either way – I’d probably ask Nick what he prefers and go with that… I love to feel my prettiest for my hubby. π Your soul is what is the most beautiful though, and that shines through no matter what color your hair is! π
Jaclyn
June 20, 2013 at 6:24 amDark! You’re a bombshell either way but I really do love you as a brunette.
Jami
June 20, 2013 at 6:30 amYour blonde post inspired me to go back to light hair. I didn’t get to do it in two days like you but over a few weeks. Then when I got to the color I thought I wanted……..I colored it brunette again! So, I feel your pain. You look great either way, truely! But if you question it that much then you aren’t 100% comfortable and if you are doing a magazine photoshoot you want to feel your most confident. No matter what color wins I can’t wait to see the article in Allure. Congrats on the win. Your blog is incredible and has taught me so much!
Ali
June 20, 2013 at 6:32 amYou are absolutely stunning blonde or brunette. I’m sure you can pull off any color actually.

June 20, 2013 at 6:34 amBrunette, but you can totally do both! xxx

June 20, 2013 at 6:38 amMy professional hairstylist advice: why does it have to be all or nothing? Do an ombrΓ© and have the dark up by your face, but lighter ends. OR do a pretty medium brown. If you do one of those, you can always go dark later.
Lisa A
June 20, 2013 at 6:40 amI am not going to vote because I think you are beautiful either way. I just found your blog recently, and I can see that you are as beautiful on the inside as you are on the outside. I am going through a difficult time and your blog is just the distraction I need each day. Thank you!
Lisa
June 20, 2013 at 6:41 amDo whatever makes you feel prettiest, you’re beautiful either way Cara!
Thank you so much for this link, the picture of the old man adopting a kitten and the 101-year old after his first flight made me cry because today I am feeling emotional.
Kassy
June 20, 2013 at 6:43 amI too am naturally that dirty blonde color, but have been dying my hair brunette for forever. I’ve also gone from brunette to blonde in one very long day at the salon, and while I enjoyed being blonde and stayed that way for 2 years, it never really felt like me. I always felt more like I was playing dress up or something. I play around with different hair colors sometimes, but always go back to the same dark mahogany brown because that’s what makes me feel like me, not necessarily prettiest, but me. I think that’s the important thing for you to do for the photo shoot, do what makes you feel most like yourself. π
Diana
June 20, 2013 at 6:43 amI think you look incredible as a blonde. But, going through the brunette vs. blonde war with myself constantly, I completely understand. You have to do what makes you feel comfortable and happy. No matter how good some people think you look as a blonde, what really matters is what you think and if you love the way you look. Do what makes you happy!
Jenine
June 20, 2013 at 6:49 amI think you have your answer. You look pretty either way, but I think the dark color fits you better.
K
June 20, 2013 at 6:49 amOkay, here’s my two cents. If you’re going to be blonde, and I realize this presents challenges, I think you need to be blonder. You’re a total knockout in your blonde wig photos on instagram.
The color your hair is now is pretty, but your skin and hair kind of blend together; there is not enough contrast.
The dark hair is also stunning and definitely suits you better than the current bronde (again, contrast!).
Carly
June 20, 2013 at 6:50 amI woul love to see a new pic of you blonde! You dont seem to post pics that much anymore of yourself! Both os gorg but u really can pull off dark fabulous! π
Christy
June 20, 2013 at 6:51 amYou are beautiful either way! I like them both, though am partial to blonde, especially since you had to damage your hair and have worked so hard getting it back to its normal, gorgeous, health. However, do what makes you feel your beautiful best; it’s just hair and you can change your mind whenever you want!
Mia @ MakeMeUpMia
June 20, 2013 at 6:52 amYou look beautiful either way, but my vote is definitely do whatever makes YOU feel prettiest.
Jill F.
June 20, 2013 at 6:59 amI vote dark. Natural is always better. π
Miss Viola Swamp (@imaqt209421)
June 20, 2013 at 7:58 amShe’s a natural blonde! I think in the end blonde will be more low maintenance and healthier if you wait it out a little…
hip hip
June 20, 2013 at 7:05 amPersonally, I like the blonde. You look younger and your countenance looks brighter. But, you do look great with brown, too. However, as someone who loves brown hair and deeply wishes she had your skin tone you so she could pull of dark hair as well as you do, I prefer the blonde.
This has nothing to do with this post: WHERE did you get those adorable dresses??
Katie
June 20, 2013 at 7:09 amYes, go dark
BUT***** have fun with it first. And what mean by that is: try some pastel colors(so cute for summer!) then do and ombrΓ©, do like a level 4 at your roots and gradually end w your tips still blonde. OmbrΓ© a awesome because you get the darkness which is magical for us light eyes girls AND you still get to have all the fun that blondes do ;). I was blonde and went back to dark, I wish I would be the transition more fun
Leslie
June 20, 2013 at 7:10 amI absolutely love the dark!!! Brunette on you looks classy! Wish I could pull of dark. I think you should do a tutorial on going dark and the right shade π
Jessica T
June 20, 2013 at 7:11 amAs pretty as you are with ANY hair color, I prefer you in dark as well.
Nicole
June 20, 2013 at 7:12 amI say go back to brunette. You feel the most beautiful when you feel like you. You actually inspired me to go back darker too. π
Shelley
June 20, 2013 at 7:13 amFather knows best π sometimes you just gotta go with what comes natural! You are beautiful both ways but I’ve been on the “trying out blonde train” and I was so happy when I stepped off and went back to my roots! You won’t regret it! What’s sexier than a tan, deep-brunette haired girl in a bikini….not much!
lizteabee
June 20, 2013 at 7:16 amWhat if you went dark again but a little bit gradually? Instead of going to black go to a medium chocolate brown?
Brooke
June 20, 2013 at 7:18 amOh good! I was hoping you’d go back. DO it! DO it! DO it! I always went back and forth too. I’m a brunette and that’s the way I like it, that’s how I look best – so be it! You’re a knockout both ways, but dark hair suits you so much more. π
Emma
June 20, 2013 at 7:19 amyou could always try a box of semi permanent color too and just do it right before the photo shoot!
Kimberly Stewart
June 20, 2013 at 7:21 amDarker is better
Paige
June 20, 2013 at 7:21 amI think you should go back dark! I do the same thing, back and forth between the two.. And right now I’m blonde as well. But it sounds like if you don’t go dark for your amazing magazine debut, you’re going to regret it. I think that’s what your heart is set on, even though the blonde is a lot of fun! My vote is dark, but you’re totally gorgeous either way! π
Paint Those Piggies
June 20, 2013 at 7:25 amI think you look beautiful either way, but I think you look very striking with dark hair. Do whatever makes you feel the best!
Julie
June 20, 2013 at 7:27 amCome back to the dark side! π I think you look great both ways, but dark hair makes you stand out!!
tjk
June 20, 2013 at 7:27 ampersonally, I’ve always liked the darker color on you more. It makes your face look more alive, brightens your eyes, etc. However this is a personal decision and you should do what makes YOU happy, not what everyone else wants you to do or thinks you should do. Go with what you want π So the answer is C!!!
ynk
June 20, 2013 at 7:31 amBLONDES HAVE MORE FUN!
Susan
June 20, 2013 at 7:31 amI think the blonde is great for summer. But you should do whatever makes you happy. What would you do if you didn’t have a photo shoot coming up? Will going back to brunette cause more damage? Don’t risk your hair falling out for a photo shoot! π
Crystal
June 20, 2013 at 7:33 amOf course the answer is “C”.
Mariah
June 20, 2013 at 7:34 amI think dark is my favorite, but I love the blonde too ! I think that you should keep it for the summer since you went through so much trouble to get it! I mean, it still looks AMAZING!!! I’m sure you will do more photo shoots for magazines. There is always next year! You can have your dark hair then:).
Rena
June 20, 2013 at 7:36 amThough you are beautiful as a blonde, I did like your dark hair better!
Christi Marxen
June 20, 2013 at 7:36 amI am a firm believer in do what makes you happy. You know how to take good care of your hair….so if you want to do it, go for it! (I am biased as a blonde turned brunette myself though. Lol) I think you could make any hair color look gorgeous!
Alli
June 20, 2013 at 7:41 amDark! I’m naturally blonde but (corny as it sounds) found myself when I went dark. I occasionally get bored & go back to blonde but never feel like ME. You’re allowed to change your mind π Dark is definitely my vote!
JoAnna
June 20, 2013 at 7:42 amDo what makes you feel prettiest! You don’t want to look back and have regrets of your pictures in the magazine shoot. You are beautiful with any hair color, but I LOVE the dark!!
Sneza
June 20, 2013 at 7:44 amI really like you blonde… I think you look younger, lighter in spirit, and more matchy with Christian. You are a beautiful woman, but I think the black hair makes you look harder, older and more Cher-wannabe than you may feel inside.
Rachel
June 20, 2013 at 7:44 amI definitely agree with the do-what-makes-you-feel-prettiest option! It’s a big photoshoot, if you wanna go dark again then go for it- you can always go back to blonde another time! Of course, you look gorgeous blonde as well, so you really can’t lose here.
Taylor Anderson
June 20, 2013 at 7:46 amYou are SOO gorgeous either way. Seriously, you’re the girl that teaches us every day how to be beautiful! You can totally rock either color. But personally, I like the brunette. π
Amanda
June 20, 2013 at 7:47 amBrunette definitely! Blondes (and I am one) are a dime a dozen. Your naturally dark hair is uniquely striking. π
Rachel Schindler
June 20, 2013 at 8:01 amB The blonde softens your face.
gabi
June 20, 2013 at 8:05 amdon’t go back dark! you’ve come so far! last summer I went from red to blonde and immediately wanted to go back to red! I still get sad when I see pics of my red hair. but instead I just went to a light brown/blonde ombre and I am actually really happy with the results. maybe try darkening just your base for a while, and leave those ends gorgeous and blonde! right now I have a 6B/5N base and I love it!
Liza Schweinfurth O'Jack
June 20, 2013 at 8:06 amI think you look great in both colors. Not all brunettes are able to do that including myself! π Isn’t there a temporary color dye out there where you can wash it away after one use? I thought that’s what they do for the movie stars who are blondes but has to be brunettes for the movie.
Liza Schweinfurth O'Jack
June 20, 2013 at 8:10 amOr you could put in light brown lowlights mixed with brown lowlights for the summer then in fall dye it all dark brown? π
Edna
June 20, 2013 at 6:31 pmI agree with Liza. Slowly transition back to dark, but with more dimensions. We all LOVE you because your concern and caring is so evident. Allure gave me the chance to find you at the time I so needed a boost.
My last breast cancer treatments were in progress when the contest started. So, the eyebrow tutorials are a God send! Who knew that I would be reinventing myself at 60 and loving my salt/pepper look!!??
I look so forward to your warmth, humor, and talents everyday. Allure is lucky to have you!
Thank you!
Edna.

June 20, 2013 at 8:16 amMy advice is to stay blonde right now. Here is why:
1. No matter what color hair you have, you will look gorgeous. Just trust Allure to get the lighting and photo stuff right and have fun with it! Try to enjoy this experience instead of worrying about what hair color (or clothes, etc.) you have for the shoot. Have faith that you will look gorgeous either way.
2. From a hair health standpoint, all dying is damaging. How would you feel if going dark caused severe damage? Pretty sad right? And you don’t want those negative feelings going into the shoot.
3. A previous poster was right in that you won the award using a photo of you as a blonde, and Allure readers might better recognize you if you stick with a similar look for the photo shoot.
4. You can always go dark later, after the shoot, when it’s a healthier time to dye. The photos you posted of yourself with darker hair are awesome. However, try to separate the emotions of change from the reality. Change is hard and nostalgia (be it for darker hair or whatever else) is awesome in its own way. However, the reality of the situation is that going dark now would be rather difficult, and you can have just as much fun as a blonde as you did as a brunette.
Sabrina
June 20, 2013 at 8:36 amI agree with you. I’d leave the blonde in for a while. You look so awesome as a blonde. But I do miss the dark hair. Give it a while longer until your hair can handle the color change. Good luck.

June 20, 2013 at 8:31 amI had this dilemma last summer. I hadn’t been blonde in years, but my husband kept telling me to just try it… so I did and for the most part I really enjoyed it! What I didn’t enjoy is all the product and work I had to put into my hair so it didn’t look damaged. I had to tone it A LOT because it kept turning orange-ish, and my hair grew so fast it was down right expensive trying to keep up with my roots. When I changed back to brunette I three some blonde peek-a-boos in so I didn’t feel too dark, and I have loved how low maintenance my color has been since switched back. Plus my ends are now a night and day difference. They look smooth instead of all frazzled and icky.

June 20, 2013 at 8:31 amI think it’s great that most people are assuming that you are a natural brunette. That proves that the color looks fab on you. It seems that you really want to go back to the dark side. Just remember that your hair is not what makes you beautiful. You will always be beautiful no matter what you do with you hair. Point being that you should just do what you want. π

June 20, 2013 at 8:35 amHonestly…this is not what you probably want to hear or what everyone else is saying lol but my vote is blonde! You’re drop dead gorge both ways!!! But I think the blonde is great for summer, even if you did go dark, it’s way harder to maintain in the blazing Sun. Plus, I think it compliments your skin tone a little better, it makes your skin look like it has some warmth to it. I also straddle both party lines, and I find that no matter which I chose, I’ll think the other looks better. My vote it on the lighter side, at least for now!!! <3
Rebecca
June 20, 2013 at 8:36 amFirst off, you are beautiful in both shades. Personally, reading through all of these comments I don’t think it will make your decision any easier because it is so split down the middle. I am naturally blonde, when I went dark I loved it – so did everyone else; but they also loved my blonde hair. When I went back to blonde everyone was saying they would miss my dark hair. Everyone put up a fuss about MY hair color (which was weird)… yet, whenever I changed my hair they magically loved it. Basically, people tend to like whatever hair color you have because they like you – not to mention you are beautiful with both. In my opinion, you should do what you you identify and feel most attractive with.. Contradictory to everything I just said, I am going to leave my opinion.. ;D Blonde makes you seem more lighthearted and soft – but dark makes you look like a steamy firecracker!! Personally, I tend to like a little bit of gun powder! It’s more striking and has a “wow” factor. π (It seems like what you want to do is go dark…)

June 20, 2013 at 8:36 amGAH! I’m going through this exact dilemma RIGHT NOW too! Granted my hair color crisis is sans the pressure of an Allure Magazine photo shoot, but still! π Today I have an appointment to get my roots touched up, and the only thought running through my head is ‘do I really wanna do this again?’! That and myriad incoherent whiney noises that always seem to accompany my overprivileged first world superficial crises.
Keep it fun, girl!
Julie
June 20, 2013 at 8:37 amDo what makes you feel most “you”!!! I recently dyed my 2-year-highlighted-super-blonde hair back to my roots, aka dark brown. It was drastic, I feel like my dark circles stand out more, and to be honest I feel not as pretty π BUT I feel most myself when I’m brunette, I figure a little makeup can cover up those dark circles, and I’d rather be a smart, unique, natural brunette than a fake bleach blonde chick with dark roots/eyebrows. SO in conclusion lol, do what makes you feel the most CARA!! Because whatever color you have, OWN IT BABY! -Julie
Stefanie
June 20, 2013 at 8:44 amI think the dark hair really pops the color of your eyes and the contrast is phenomenal!
Emily
June 20, 2013 at 8:47 amI do think you look best with dark hair, but what I would do is get a temporary hair dye until you decide for sure what you want. Hope this helps!
h
June 20, 2013 at 8:48 amI think you are equally beautiful as a blonde as you are with dark hair (which is quite a feat not commonly achieved so well done!). It comes down to how you feel the most comfortable. I dyed my hair red a while back because it had been a goal of mine for ages and while I was told it looked great, every time I looked at myself I felt ever so wistful for my brunette self. You will be stunningly beautiful whichever direction you choose to go. Congratulations again on a prize well earned!
Elle
June 20, 2013 at 8:56 amYou look beautiful either way, but as a fellow brunette.. Go Dark!! π
Cait
June 20, 2013 at 8:57 amGo back to whatever makes you feel your best. Life is too short to live with a regret as simple and as easy to fix as hair color. I have the same exact eye color, hair color and skin tone as Anne Hathaway, and people tell me all the time to either get a tan or lighten my hair, but I just can’t, I just don’t feel pretty any other way.
Megan
June 20, 2013 at 8:58 amChoice D, all the way!! You would have always wondered if you had never tried, but now you know!
Bridget
June 20, 2013 at 8:59 amI would say that you blend in more as a blonde and stand out more as a brunette.
Michele
June 20, 2013 at 9:08 amYour beauty is unaffected by the color of your hair. I say resist the temptation of going dark, stick with your natural color, allow the condition of your hair to improve, and enjoy the photo shoot. The overall health of your long tresses are worth more than the potential damage in dyeing dark. Have a lovely day!

June 20, 2013 at 9:10 amIf you say “you feel like you have to work twice as hard to feel half as pretty” being blond and you’re already missing being brunette then you should go dark! I love your dark hair and it sounds like you do too! Maybe you just need to be brunette awhile longer! You can always go blond in the future!
Rachael Mikelionis
June 20, 2013 at 9:11 amSounds like you’re having to convince yourself to stay blonde. Why? It’s hair…do whatever makes you feel confident, pretty and relaxed. Go dark if that is what is going to make you feel the most comfortable for the shoot then be blonde again any other time! It’s not like your stopping in the middle of a marathon, it’s more like you’re second plate at a buffet…fill it with something different than the first one:) I personally love your blog and think you’re beautiful…. blonde or brunette!
Meredith
June 20, 2013 at 9:12 amI vote (B) STAY blonde! I like the blonde on you and its summer time! You can always go dark later.

June 20, 2013 at 9:17 amI understand what you mean exactly! I recently did exactly what you did! I dyed my hair from black to blonde and now I went to ombre! And i love it! I dyed it back to black on the top and it gradually fades to blonde! I love it because my hair isn’t harshly black during summer because i know it will fade even if it is my natural color. The blonde on the bottom gives me the best of both worlds! Hope this helps!
Christine
June 20, 2013 at 9:17 amConsensus…you are a lovely woman regardless of hair color. However, I understand your comment about having to work harder with the lighter hair color. It’s taken me years to embrace and understand it, but dark hair has built in drama. Less is more. So I think you look stunning either way – but with dark hair everything just POPS more. Just don’t hurt that beautiful hair!
Sonia
June 20, 2013 at 9:25 amI’ve played with many different hair colors, then one day I realized, I have a blonde soul. I’ve been blonde for 7 years now and have never looked back. I feel at home in my hair. Experimenting is fun, but…. When you know, you know. I think you know which colors belongs on you, deep down. No regrets….why wait to be happy?

June 20, 2013 at 9:26 amI vote for DARK!!! and it seems thats what you really want so just do it! π

June 20, 2013 at 9:26 amHi Cara,
I have a bit of an unconventional idea, but what if you went back to dark in a gradual way? You could color your hair more heavily on your roots and gradually work the color out and have ombre hair. Or you could add a bunch of low-lights. Then you would avoid completely frying your ends and having to lose your length (I totally know you love keeping your hair long). I personally do like the dark better, but since your photo is already on the Allure website, and you have taken many measures already to stay healthy, I would work in the color in a less drastic way. Good luck!
Katie
June 20, 2013 at 9:31 amI love your dark hair because…. 1 – It’s beautiful. 2 – It’s natural. and 3. It’s you!
Thank you for your blog, your inspiration and your straight.

June 20, 2013 at 9:36 amCara- you really are beautiful and you have encouraged so many women to feel good about themselves! You are an amazing person and I think you should do what makes you feel natural and beautiful. You do look amazing with dark hair and light blue eyes! I have always loved that look and wish I had light eyes to go with my dark hair. I just think its so unique looking. BUT no matter what everyone else says, you should do what makes you feel the best. Good luck and congrats on your blogger win!!

June 20, 2013 at 9:37 amThe reason change is good is that it helps you try different things and figure out what’s best for you. You probably couldn’t have figured out how much you LOVE being brunette without trying the blonde for a bit, but now you know. In light of the Allure photo shoot, I say go back to being brunette, because it sounds like it makes you feel happier, prettier, and much more like yourself. But either way you’re gorgeous!
kathy rendon
June 20, 2013 at 9:40 amDo what makes you feel beautiful. I think you are gorgeous as a blonde but i do like you as a brunette a little more.

June 20, 2013 at 9:58 amI actually took your new blonde picture to my hair stylist, and asked her to make my hair look like yours!! π I’ve always been a brunette, but have secretly always wanted to be a blonde. I don’t think I can quite pull off blonde as well as brunette, though. I think you are gorgeous with both colors!

June 20, 2013 at 10:03 amDARK for sure!!! I was feeling bad that millions of people wouldn’t get to see how stunning you look with your dark hair for the photo shoot! I actually breathed a sigh of relief when I saw this post and realized it isn’t too late.

June 20, 2013 at 10:05 amGirl, the answer is in the question: “Should I work twice as hard to feel half as pretty?” Heck, no! Seriously, you’ll look beautiful in the photos regardless because of your beautiful personality. But the answer is still the answer.
malaena
June 20, 2013 at 10:51 amI agree with the idea of doing an hombre with dark on the top. Super dark is pretty but without time to let it settle it can look pretty harsh. Maybe just try something in between and if you don’t like it go darker.

June 20, 2013 at 10:32 amD! DUH! You are beautiful either way, but dark suits you best!

June 20, 2013 at 10:50 amYou’ll want to look back at these photos for years to come and I think you’ll be happier if you are a brunette. You look amazing either way but I must say you are absolutely stunning as a brunette!

June 20, 2013 at 11:47 amWith your skin tone, I think it would be best to continue being a blonde. Honestly, I think that when you’re a brunette your selftanner pops out and looks a bit… (I’m sorry! not trying to be mean – just honest!) Fake.
Blonde highlights your beautiful face!

June 20, 2013 at 12:16 pmI’ve heard you look your best when you wear your hair closest to its natural color when you were a child (since usually everyone’s hair naturally darkens with age), but I think you’re one of the lucky women who can pull off any look and still look gorge. So do what makes you feel good… And sounds to me like going dark is what makes you feel your best. (That’s hard for me to say because I’m blonde and I’ve really been diggin’ your makeup looks these days.) Good luck with the decision making!! π

June 20, 2013 at 12:22 pmI vote for brunette. You’re beautiful either way, but the dark hair is just you!

June 20, 2013 at 12:29 pmOk, here’s my two cents. Your beautiful no matter your decision but I personally love the blonde on you. Having said that I would love to see you as a dark auburn sometime, I think it would make your eyes really pop. I’m sure you will make the best decision for you. Congrats and best of luck to you. God bless you.

June 20, 2013 at 12:37 pmBrunette! I dyed my hair red for fun a month before my wedding but then realised that I thought my wedding day and photos should be the real me so I went back. And the second I dyed it back I realised that brunette hair was just me and that I would never change it again, no matter how spontaneous I’m feeling! I vote you go back to you.

June 20, 2013 at 12:56 pmI agree with the overwhelming sentiment on here… go back to dark. Not too pitch-blank mind you, just dark brown. Especially if that’s what makes you feel the prettiest, Allure is a BIG deal!

June 20, 2013 at 1:25 pmC. I think you know what you need to do. As everyone has said. you look great either way, but I can see you happier in your brunette hair (from the pics that I’ve seen). You look more confident, natural, and just happier. I also think of hair kinda like that expensive pair of shoes or purse you see in a store. If you see it and love it, wait. If you’re still thinking about it a few days from then, it belongs to you. Same concept for your hair. Good luck, I know its a hard decision!

June 20, 2013 at 1:30 pmChocolate brown, for sure! Don’t think I’m saying the blonde isn’t nice. I just think brunette suits you best! π

June 20, 2013 at 1:31 pmYou are beautiful both ways, and you really pull off both looks, as opposite as they are. I’m naturally dark haired like you are, and even though I get bored with it and try to change it up, it really is “me” and I feel like me when I’m dark. I tried to go blonde last year, and though it did look nice and people liked it, it felt so weird to see myself in the mirror with blonde hair. It really is a big shock at first and I couldn’t get used to it, it felt like I was looking at a totally new person – which I didn’t like. I think it’s up to you, whatever you decision you make, of course – but I think you look absolutely gorgeous with luscious dark hair!
Do what makes you feel your best and most beautiful.
charlotte
June 20, 2013 at 1:33 pmI’ve found it best to stay close to my original color in depth.. but change the tone if I need a change. It’s just easier on your hair in the long run. However I also think you should do what makes YOU happy. It’s easy to get caught up in what other people think.

June 20, 2013 at 2:07 pmI say blonde and strong! Don’t forget…Allure isn’t going to print a bad picture of you, they are a reputable magazine and they will have a whole team to make your hair look and you look fabulous. Plus there’s always photoshop if you need a little insurance/assurance policy! π have fun!

June 20, 2013 at 2:35 pmHa, I dyed my hair dark because I loved the look on you. That same week you then dyed your hair blonde. And I loved that too. Keep the blonde. Even if only for the summer. It looks stunning.

June 20, 2013 at 2:42 pmI am brunette with fair skin that utterly repels the sun so if I went blonde, I would look like an albino. I started to get noticeable gray hair waaaay too young. When I went to restore my dark tresses, the stylist said I should just add blonde highlights and then no one would notice the grays and my hair would be gorgeous. It made me sad that my hair had to be blonde to be pretty. I say rock your beautiful dark tresses. There are so many blondes, light brown or highlighted ladies out there, stand out!

June 20, 2013 at 3:58 pmCara I know exactly what you are going through! A couple years ago I took myself from dark to blonde. After a few months of the high maintenance color, I went back to near-black and never looked back! I just felt that although it was a fun change I secretly knew I was a brunette at heart. That was two years ago and it`s like I have gotten it out of my system and haven`t had the slightest urge to lighten things up since!
Do whatever will make you happiest girl, you always look fab!

June 20, 2013 at 4:27 pmSo this is the first time I’ve ever commented on ANY blog but thought now was the time. Last year was the toughest year for me and had no idea when the roller coaster of bad luck was going to stop. For a long time I steered clear of pinterest but then found your Victoria’s Secrets secrets. Like most people I was instantly hooked and spent hours perusing your blog, watching your videos over and over again and hunted high and low all over the city to find products you recommended. Perhaps my wallet was not thankful but for me this is exactly what I needed to both help me gain my confidence back as well as take my mind off all that I had gone through. I was not always a girlie-girl and knew nothing about makeup (I had the same makeup routine for 7 years!) but watching your videos and seeing what you could do, I was amazed that I too could look like a better version of myself. Since reading and religiously following your blog, I have gained tremendous confidence and insightful info and beauty tips from you to the point I too was making over anyone who would let me. Anyone who knows me knows this is a big, big deal. I just wanted to first say thank you for taking the time to share what you know and to pass your knowledge along to others. As a kindergarten teacher, I am a firm believer in sharing. π Secondly, you are so funny and love your sense of humour and lastly (the whole point to me writing this comment in the first place), I am a brunette and had you been blonde when I saw your pin, I would have looked at your blog but would never have tried any of your recommendations and would still be stuck in a makeup time warp. So, although I think you are beautiful as a blonde, I think you are absolutely stunning as a brunette! No matter what what you decide, you will always be stunning, inside and out!
Galina
June 20, 2013 at 4:31 pmAs a long-time lurker of your blog, DON’T GO BACK!!! You are always a beautiful girl, but you are STUNNING with the blonde/ honey brown, it suits you so well! As soon as you posted the transition, my first thoughts were something along the lines of “DAMN!! She owns that color”. I feel like the dark hair holds you back and smothers you, and that the lighter colors really illuminate your features and lovely skin tone. Don’t get me wrong, I am a natural brunette-on-the-verge-of-black and generally prefer brunette on others, but you really rock that honey tone! Yes, there are a lot of bottle blondes out there but honestly if I didn’t know you had dark hair before I would just assume it was your natural color and be green with envy. Dark hair is heavy, one-dimensional, and SO EASY TO DO. Have fun with the depth of highlights you have from the blonde for as long as you can, you can always go back to brown in less than 30 minutes after a quick trip to Walgreens π

June 20, 2013 at 4:58 pmI personally prefer your blonde hair!
If you do color your hair brown, maybe try a softer or lighter brown, with some highlights for dimension and shine:]

June 20, 2013 at 6:21 pmHaha! I thought for a moment that you were going to say you were pregnant and having second thoughts or marriage second thoughts. I literally laughed out loud. But on a serious note, I loved your brunette hair. But maybe I’m biased being a natural brunette and all.

June 20, 2013 at 6:38 pmDon’t dye it just for the photo shoot! you look amazing either way. Only do it if you just want to be brunette again. I think the blonde looks a little more natural, but the brunette does make your eyes stand out… I do what is easiest- nothing!;) A little off topic, but where did you source that amazing lace number you are wearing in the picture with your adorable son?
Erica Tanner
June 20, 2013 at 6:49 pmGo dark, girl! You are in a magazine and you wanna feel your best! Plus, you will look back at these photos and you don’t wanna regret it. So if you don’t go back brunette or change the blonde (depending on what you really want) then you will regret it. DO what YOU love. But….if you want my opinion? I think you should go back dark! More you!

June 20, 2013 at 6:51 pmI’ve been having that battle in my mind for years! My hairstylist suggested a highlighted brunette that’s kinds in between and I’ve really liked it. In fact, when I ask different people they give different answers as to which color my hair is exactly- and I’ve liked it that way!!!

June 20, 2013 at 6:55 pmTry a chocolatey-caramely ombre! best of both worlds. I always like to be a bit lighter in the summer and everyone’s hair looks better with some dimension.

June 20, 2013 at 10:39 pmI am in the middle of this same struggle.. except I don’t have a photo shoot in two weeks! I’m waiting it out to see how I’ll feel about a little later on, just trying to enjoy it for now. But my heart is really telling me to go back dark. I’m a brunette and I always will be. Also, the link is freggin hysterical! I needed that!

June 20, 2013 at 11:02 pmI think you’re beautiful either way! But just do whatever you feel the prettiest in, you have to feel secure and confident in front of the camera so do what makes you feel the best. π
Also, if you read this, do you think you could please do a post as to how to cover up a sunburned nose and raccoon eyes from wearing sunglasses and not enough sunscreen? Pretty please!! I was stupid this past weekend and didn’t wear enough sunscreen and now my nose and forehead are peeling and it’s pretty disgusting. I know you’re super busy but if any other girls reading the comments can give me some tips I would love to hear them. Thanks a bunch!!

June 20, 2013 at 11:42 pmHaving literally every color-EVER, I’ll just leave this little thought- I carried a picture of myself as a baby, a BLONDE baby, my whole life, then I lived as a platinum blonde for several self-dyed, self-styled years, & it made me feel finally I had come into my own. Ironically, I think this applies to your dark, radiant brunette- you can be any color, but whatever color you come back to over& over, even in your dreams, that is the hair-color you will be happiest with. For me, that’s PLATINUM BLONDE ,but its totally an individual decision. Whenever you feel like you wake up–BEFORE MAKEUP–your most beautiful, go with that one. Chances are that’s what others think too…

June 21, 2013 at 4:35 amDear Cara, I can totally feel your pain….although you look beautiful both way, so you don’t need to suffer! I think that your blonde hair is not a complete job yet but you are close to the final. And if you go black again you will abandon this project without knowing the real end. So, I vote for blonde. I think that you will take a serius risk getting brunette so close to the photo shooting, your hair can get a different shade from the original one… I really think that you look better brunette but just because your blond project is not complete. Why don’ t you meet your friend who did the process?
Good luck, darling! beijos!

June 21, 2013 at 5:25 amCara, I love all your posts and your inspirational way of thinking. It’s natural to feel insecure about a cosmetic change. I recently got honey blonde highlights in my dark hair for the first time, and although I initially was excited about it…I hate them now. But I keep nourishing my hair and I’m learning to enjoy them. I eventually will go back to all dark hair (and NOT EVER go back to blonde) but for now I think you should try to enjoy the blonde because most likely after this you’ll always have dark hair. You are a beautiful person. Your hair does not define that. Keep up the great work with your blog and family. Much love, Chloe.

June 21, 2013 at 6:19 amAs if you need another opinion, but I really love the dark hair. You look gorgeous with either color, but I’ve been in your shoes myself and when you know you’re a brunette… Well, you just know!
On another note, thank you for keeping up on the blog! I look forward to receiving them in my email because I always learn something new and have a good laugh because, lets face it, you’re funny:)

June 21, 2013 at 7:50 amI think you are gorgeous with both. I think that if you are going to go darker though that you shouldn’t go back quite as dark as before. Maybe more of a nice rich Brown (like Mila Kunis or Anne Hathaway) More Dimensional and less black. I think what I like about the blonde is all the layers of color.

June 21, 2013 at 8:59 amI love your hair dark, but whatever makes you feel beautiful!

June 21, 2013 at 9:19 amI don’t know you personally, but I get the impression that you want to be blonde because maybe…blond girls are more popular than brunettes? Lets put it this way: You look amazing as a brunette; smart, sophisticate, classy, risk taker. You will look good as a blond. If you want to change your hair or anything else in your life, whatever it could be, do it for the right reasons. Cara , you are a smart lady!

June 21, 2013 at 10:24 amThis is soo funny to me only because I just went through the exact same thing! I lightened my hair a couple days before you and then similar to you, decided I liked my dark color better. I tried to wait it out over the summer but in the end just decided WHY when I felt prettier being dark!? I JUST changed my hair back to dark last week and I am happy I did! Im sure you will be too π

June 21, 2013 at 11:08 amI can relate. I chopped my hair off and then had to grow it out. But i dont regret chopping it cause it was so fun!My advice to you is that you are still beautiful no matter what hair color you have! Rock the heck out of the blonde while you have it:) look up gorgeous blonde hair and new hair styles on Pinterest and you will start to love the blonde again.

June 21, 2013 at 1:14 pmKara, I go through the same thing!! Not sure what color I should be-blonde or brunette! My hair is a dishwater blonde/brownish color and I just took the plunge to blonde and now I’m feeling like I should go back to a dark brunette!! I feel more like myself with darker hair but then I think how far I’ve come in lightening my hair (because we all know how damaging and costly it can be!)

June 23, 2013 at 2:00 pmI think you would look like a rock star with NO HAIR! But, if I HAD to pick between blonde or brunette…… I would pick brunette. It makes your blue eyes *pop* and matches your skin tone. But, like I said, even with no hair at all, you would still be the wonderful, beautiful, amazing, kind & lovely person that you are. Love you!

June 24, 2013 at 5:55 amI am no good to give you advice on this one because my hair is dark atm but, I am thinking about going lighter, not blonde, just lighter, I am just bored with my hair cause it’s been dark for soo long.
But let me tell you, you look beautiful either way π

June 24, 2013 at 6:55 pmIt’s rare to find someone who can pull off blonde and brunette shades…very few actually can. You however can definitely pull it off. I find the blonde refreshing on you…especially with those light rosy, dewy summer palettes. I wanted to lighten my hair this summer…and sadly it did not turn out so well! I ended up with all these bronzy shades and it was just a mess. Needless to say I’m back to midnight blue…which is a refreshing change from the orangey streaks I’m still recovering from but deep down, at heart I’m a blonde.
I totally dig Emma Stone’s blonde tresses atm and your look has definitely inspired me as well to lighten up for the Summer weather. I love the low lights in your hair as well…maybe I’ll give it another go…only this time I’ll try the salon!
In closing, you’re totally stunning no matter what….and when your Allure article comes out you’re going to blow us all away! Can’t wait! Beautiful wedding images by the way! …I love your dress.
Toodles for now,
Tammy
