This is Rachel’s sister-in-law Audrey. I know, she’s gorge. Plus she let me totally ransack her day by showing up unannounced for my Allure entry this week. She has 4 kids, who were all so sweet the whole time I was stealing their mom and her husband did the grocery shopping and brought her home flowers while we worked. Couldn’t have turned out better. I figured I would post this because in my entry the after is in the video and since I know a lot of you can’t see the vids on Allure’s site it would be cruel to leave you hangin’ with nothing but a before!
What I used:
I used a copper shadow on her lid and then highlighter her brow with a shimmery cream {Garnet & Lt. Bronze from the LORAC Pro Palette}
Did a thick solid liner on her upper lid {SEPHORA Liquid Liner in Black}
Then filled her brows in a high arch {MAC Eyeshadow in Brun}
A thick layer of mascara {L’Oreal Voluminous in Carbon Black}
And a sexy pair of natural looking lashes Red Cherry False Eyelashes
A very light coat of foundation {NARS Sheer Glow Foundation in STROMBOLI}
I highlighted her with my mix but a similar option would be { Clinique Even Better Concealer in Buttermilk
Then contoured with {The Balm Bahama Mama Bronzer}
Contoured & lined her lips with {CoverGirl Perfect Blend Pencil in Mink}
and glossed her up with Colour Riche Legloss in Baby Blossom
HAIR! For her hair we lightened it and added some layers then did twirl curls (my favorite)
Be sure to check out the contest today and see how I fared last week and get some more fun details from this makeover (and the other fun makeovers)

It’s Sunday night as I write this so I have no idea what happened yet… SO NERVOUS/ANXIOUS!

Do you have any suggestions for a cheaper alternative to the Nars foundation that you used?
You are wonderful!

May 6, 2013 at 7:08 amWOW! That was amazing. It would be even better if the pictures were just a little bit smaller so you could see the before and after at the same time instead of having to scroll up and down a bunch. Maybe it’s just my computer that has that issue?

May 6, 2013 at 8:23 amAmazing makeover, as always! I’d love for you to use a freckled gal for a makeover sometime. I’m fair complected and very freckled and I don’t feel like the same makeup tips/ideas can be applied to my group sometimes. Anyway, glad you’re doing so awesome in the contest- keep up the great work!
Kira
May 6, 2013 at 3:45 pmAgreed! 🙂
Cara
May 6, 2013 at 9:12 pmThanks so much! Search “freckled” on my blog for a very basic freckles makeup post, but I am working on another tutorial for freckled gals… coming soon.

May 6, 2013 at 8:48 amYay Cara! I bet all those other bloggers are asking themselves what do you have that they don’t?! Lol. You’re just awesome simply put. You’re likes girl who is your best friend you’ve known all your life, who is gorgeous but you don’t mind because she’s such a beautiful person inside too! Congrats again girl and thanks for posting the makeover after pics since I can’t see the video :).

May 6, 2013 at 9:29 amShe looked young before and you’ve made her look forty… how is this a successful makeover?
Jill
May 6, 2013 at 9:38 amI see no difference here in her appearance as far as age. To me, in the before picture, she looks young, laid back, and beautifully ready for a casual day with four kids. In the after picture, she looks young, laid back, and beautifully ready for a sassy date night with her husband. They are two totally different looks for different occasions and are both entirely appropriate for a woman her age. Amazing job, Cara!
liz @ btb
May 6, 2013 at 10:11 amAGREED! And if I look like that when I’m 40, I’ll be on my knees thanking God for making me look so dang HOT. She’s a knock-out!
A
May 6, 2013 at 10:57 amExactly! I’m thinking, “What’s wrong with looking 40, anyway?!”
kissycat1973
May 6, 2013 at 3:13 pmHey, you young little whipper snapper. You’ve made me cry–today is my 40th birthday! You’re insinuating that 40 is old. Anyhow, I think this makeover is AMAZING. Cara is truly an artist.
Sena
May 6, 2013 at 8:12 pmActually I agree that she looks a bit older after the makeover.
Brenda
May 6, 2013 at 9:38 amWow she looks amazing afterwards! I love your makeovers, you really know what how to transform someone to look outstanding! Congrats if you won!
Katie
May 6, 2013 at 9:41 amHoly cow, Cara!!! I voted before I even watched the video…or even before I watched the other contestants’ videos…but that makeover was AMAZING. It’s amazing what happens when us mama’s get out of our yoga pants and into some cute jeans 🙂

May 6, 2013 at 9:50 amLiterally blown away. It’s no wonder you are kicking butt and taking names in the allure competition. You are a miracle worker my dear. Keep on making the world a more beautiful place.

May 6, 2013 at 9:54 amCongratulations on winning again! Well deserved! And awesome makeover, like you said, she was already beautiful but you made her shine even more! And I agree with another commenter above, will you please do some makeover on girls from other ethnicities? I’m Mexican with medium-light skin and I bought the Bahama Mama to try out with HAC-ing but it just makes my face look dirty. Maybe it’s not the right color for me? Anyway, keep up the awesome job!!
Cara
May 6, 2013 at 9:29 pmThanks so much! I’m really sorry. I know contour colors can be tricky. I’m always on the hunt for something better. If you’re not liking the Bahama Mama for sure take it back for a refund.
Emily Swearingen
May 6, 2013 at 9:54 amGood Lord! She is stunning with and without make-up! Keep it up Cara and keep inspiring people like me! 🙂

May 6, 2013 at 10:19 amAwesome makeover. She looks amazing!
Sandra
May 6, 2013 at 10:22 amLike others said, Audrey is very pretty before the makeover but with your artistic hand, she is a total knock-out! I bet she was looking for somewhere to go after the makeover – heck, even grocery shopping would be nice just to get out! Seriously, I hope her husband flaunted her somewhere. Another fantastic work of art, Cara! Start packing! xoxo!!
pennyp
May 6, 2013 at 10:39 amCan I just say…. pack your bags, baby! I’ve gotta feeling you’re going to NY!!! (You SOOO deserve to win!!!) Your make-over this week is so absolutely, stunningly, fab-u-lous!!! I reduced my screen to 50% so I could see the before/after at the same time and I just kept going back and forth, back and forth, yep, it’s her….. such a lovely, lovely gal turned foxy-hot!! I’m just in awe…………

May 6, 2013 at 10:43 amGorgeous! Can you share how you did her hair?

May 6, 2013 at 9:32 pmThanks so much! I added the hair explanation to the post for you:)

May 6, 2013 at 10:50 amCan I just say that EVERY lady with the over-tweezed thin brow should see the before and after of this makeover. It perfectly demonstrates why eyebrows are such an important facial feature. Audrey is beautiful, and all of the rest of the makeover was amazing, but the eyebrows make it for me. Love it!
Stephanie
May 6, 2013 at 10:51 amCongrats on allure! You’re kicking it!!
Also gorgeous makeover. She’s pretty lucky and very pretty!!
Gwen
May 6, 2013 at 10:52 amDude! You’re on FIRE with this Allure contest (but you deserve it). And Audrey? The before picture I thought “she’s really pretty” and then with the after picture? Va-va-voom! Smokin’!

May 6, 2013 at 1:10 pmYour work is amazing! I normally am not fond of worrying about makeup and experimenting with new techniques, but I think I should be. I need a makeover in a serious way. I have scars from acne, tired eyes, dry patches, small eyebrows, and no knowledge on how to fix these problems. Living in Las Vegas, my skin changes constantly due to this hot, dry weather. I would like to learn how to fix my problems, and have a more mature look without having to do much. Being a preschool teacher, I don’t really need to go overboard. It would be nice to learn a couple different techniques, although, for when I do go out on the weekends with friends. Any suggestions? I’d love to hear your advice!

May 6, 2013 at 1:55 pmAudrey is very cute in her before picture. She becomes the definition of “Bombshell!” in her after picture! Beautiful! 🙂

May 6, 2013 at 2:22 pmYou’re kickin’ some booty over at allure! YEAH!!!

May 6, 2013 at 2:47 pmSuch a great and impact full makeover Cara! Voting for you as often as I can 🙂 you’re doing great!!!
Emma
May 6, 2013 at 3:09 pmI think you are very talented… but I think that she is prettier in the before shot! A little mascara on her bottom lashes (I think I already see some on the top), some blush and lipstick, and that is all she would need! Her pretty eyes get lost behind all of the makeup in the after shot. Her skin tone is prettier before too… but I think naturally fair skinned people look better without bronzer to make them have a “fake” tan, anyway. Just my opinion again though! I just hope she knows how naturally beautiful she is!
kissycat1973
May 6, 2013 at 3:17 pmCara, you are really an amazing artist. You should be working in Hollywood earning BIG bucks!! Seriously. I dream of having you give me a makeover!! I even made a trip to Ulta (armed with my 20% off my entire purchase coupon) and bought a bunch of stuff to try to do some of the techniques on your tutorials. Thanks to you, I used eyebrow pencil for the first time in my life! 🙂 Thank you for being such an inspiration.
Jacey
May 6, 2013 at 4:03 pmCan you use “The Balm Bahama Mama Bronzer” if you are blonde hair, blue eyes, and very fair? Or is there something else you would recommend? I really want to try HACing! I’ve been using the “Tomas” spray tan on my face and that might help, but do you put your face tan on at night after your moisturizer then just rinse your face with water in the morning? Love your blog! Thanks!
Cara
May 6, 2013 at 9:52 pmOk so don’t use Bahama Mama if you are very fair. Here is my post for HACing for fair skin:
http://www.maskcara.com/maskcara/2012/12/19/faq-for-hac/
Yes face tan on at night and rinse in the morning:)
Michelle
May 6, 2013 at 4:09 pmWOW! As others I can’t vote as in AUS but glad to see your getting support from all your followers there, keep up the inspiring work .
Kimberly
May 6, 2013 at 4:55 pmFabulous makeover! She looks beautiful and fierce and her eyes are so stunning! Also, I just wanted to say that I have always loved makeup. But my current job isn’t exactly glamorous. In fact, its quite physical and I lack the opportunity to glam myself up. That has been the case at least for the past couple of years. Recently however, I have had a bit more free time on my hands–most of which has been spent on Pinterest. I have come across many of your pins and they’ve always grabbed my attention. From the pin on how to get wavy hair ( I LOVED the tutorial you did about how to get wavy locks like Megan Fox. I followed suit–posted a pic on fb, and I’ve never received so many compliments), to the different styles of makeup brushes and their uses, to the HACing. When I watched the HACing I knew I had to create a ‘bloglovin’ account just so I could follow your blog! You have rekindled an old flame between the art that is makeup and myself. Applying makeup is fun and exciting again and I’m always looking for new and creative ways of beautifying myself (hair and makeup alike). I can’t thank you enough!!
kristen @ glambunctious
May 6, 2013 at 5:32 pmShe looks gorgeous!! You really brought out her inner bombshell!
Kara
May 6, 2013 at 5:41 pmI’m obsessed with her new hair. Please tell us how and what dyes were used in this process. I want to do this to my own. Thanks Cara. I LOVE your blog.
Cara
May 6, 2013 at 10:01 pmSo glad you like it! We balayaged bleach on mid to end of her hair shaft to combat the black. Then we put some highlights through it. Then we toned it with a Redken shades EQ 7NV.
Ashley
May 6, 2013 at 5:56 pmHey cara!!! I love your blog. You have amazing tips that are so easy to incorporate into everyday beauty. I have a request. Could you put something together on how to style damaged hair. I fried mine and I don’t want to make it worse but I don’t necessarily want to wear a ponytail or hat everyday. Just a request if you get the time! Keep it up 🙂 love ya
Ashley 🙂

May 6, 2013 at 7:36 pmWow…dramatic!! I’m lying in bed with my hubby checking email on my phone. I showed my husband the before and after pics and he said that couldn’t possibly be the same person. We argued back and forth. He truly believed it wasn’t the same person!! You are truly an artist. Congratulations on winning again! I vote for you every week. You deserve it!
Valerie North
May 6, 2013 at 8:03 pmGORGEOUS!
Sena
May 6, 2013 at 8:23 pm:(. Reluctantly, I have to agree with another commenter that she looks somewhat older in the “after” shot. I think it’s something to do with the thick eye liner which draws too much attention to the lids. Or perhaps the foundation color… But I am not sure.
I am head over heels for your blog (been chiming in a lot here, including a long gushy comment on the Love Letters post :)) and I think for all the genuine energy you give us, the least we owe you in return is our honest opinion (and our votes! Whooo hooo 3rd Allure win! Voting religiously :)))).
Carey
May 6, 2013 at 8:25 pmAnyone else see the resemblance to Carmen Electra? Great job, Cara!
Lauren
May 6, 2013 at 8:47 pmWOW!! I so wish you could do a make over on me 🙂

May 6, 2013 at 9:20 pmOMG you have outdone yourself again! No wonder you love doing makeovers, you’re SO good at it! I would totally love to have been makeover ambushed by you! Congrats, you deserve it!!
Erin
May 7, 2013 at 8:14 amHoly moly! You do WONDERS for eyebrows on your makeovers! I keep trying, one of these days I’ll master it. Question: How do you use Nars in Stromboli on so many different skin tones?? I’m tempted to just buy a bottle myself but not sure it’s right for me.
Congrats on the Allure win, I’m voting for you!! It’s the least I can do for all you’ve done for me!
Ainsley
May 7, 2013 at 12:01 pm1)what camera do you use??
2) IMO a better maybe even brighter lipstick with a light layer of lip gloss would have been so pretty

November 13, 2013 at 8:33 amShe uses a Nikon D700.

May 7, 2013 at 12:57 pmShe was gorgeous before, like you said….but you enhanced everything about her! Great job…she is lucky you showed up at her doorstep! I have been voting for you and I’m happy to do so, you have given me so many wonderful tips in the last few months I have been following your blog. You are very talented and deserve this win! Congrats!
Tammy
May 7, 2013 at 3:45 pmGood Heavens! This gal was beautiful before but WOW! I love the “LOVE” choker necklace too! Where did that come from? Adorable! P.S. your kicking some serious hiney in this contest!! Congrats, girly! Your blog is the best. You have helped me more than you will ever know! Thank you thank you!

May 7, 2013 at 5:14 pmThank you Cara & Rachel for doing such an amazing job & making me feel like a million bucks! It’s far to easy as a mother of 4 to lose yourself in being a mommy, putting yourself on the back burner, throwing your hair up, wearing yoga pants & occasionally stepping your look up by adding maskara lol! It’s easier when they’re older to take more time for yourself, getting dolled up but with a 1yr old constantly getting into stuff my beauty routine will have to wait! Thank you again for the amazing day & look & for making me feel like a super model, if only for the day. And tank you to everyone for your sweet & amazing comments 🙂 Go Cara! You got this in the bag baby 🙂 oh we’re getting a house with a pool the end of this month so let’s get our tan on like we did 6 years ago lol 🙂

May 7, 2013 at 6:44 pmThis is amazing. No one compares to you and your tutorials! I was just wondering what shade of foundation in the nars sheer glow would you recommend if you were the same colouring as she is in the before photo? does she have fake tan on in the after picture? ♥♥

May 7, 2013 at 11:11 pmHi Cara!
I actually never blog or read blogs, but I LOVE yours. I too tried to vote for you, but I’m in Taiwan right now.
Your blog is incredible!
Megan
May 8, 2013 at 12:02 amHoly cow! She is beautiful! So, I was complaining to my husband about my makeup and he replied, “Why don’t you ask that maskcara lady that you love?” What a great idea! So here is my problem… The makeup on my nose always looks cakey. I even had my makeup done at the MAC counter and when I got home it looked cakey!. I have tried everything! or at least I think I have. Using a primer helps, but doesn’t fix it completely. I see all these women with smooth makeup and I get so jealous! Help! What am I doing wrong?
Sincerely,
cakey, and not the good kind

May 8, 2013 at 8:17 amCara!!!
This is a beautiful woman pre-make over… not just for her good looks but being a mama to so many wee little ones (my mama had 3 under 3, too)!! I am maxed out some days taking care of my adorable puppy dog, haha! I don’t usually comment on your posts and just admire from afar, but today… you moved. me. to. tears!!! Streaking down my face! I don’t know you. I don’t know your in-law sis-in-law, but oh my!
**bowing down to the master**
Great job. amazing job. wow.
Big hugs and bigger smiles,

May 10, 2013 at 9:55 amoh my goodness, all of your makeovers are gorgeous. I wonder what you would do in a makeover for me…An idea for an awesome post would be to give a few lucky readers a chance for them to send you a pic of them ‘el natural’ and you tell them what you would do if you were to give them a makeover! ….like an internet makeover!!
