I am a total sucker for the brownies.
I got my first pair of brown contacts when I was 18 and have used them every once in a while since. I’d use them more but they kind of irritate my eyes after a while…
I think I look nicer with brown eyes and guess what? they have actually done clinic research to back me up on that! People with brown eyes are found to seem more trustworthy and more approachable.
There’s an innocence about them that I love.
(I think the skin looked prettier outside than with my light, even though this photo is bad quality)
I have been working on a series for each eye color but I wanted to do something different this time
Generally when people tell you what to wear to suit your eye color they focus on contrasting eye shadows, which is fun and totally works. I’ve posted about it before and will again. This time though, I wanted to show some ways you can use your whole face to compliment and enhance your eye color.
Most people just like their eyes, and why wouldn’t they? Big balls of glowing colorful light? Gorgeous. The more ways to bring attention to those, the better. Oh AND I only used drugstore makeup in this one, affordable city.
Here is my tutorial (you would fall off your chair if you knew how many times I tried to make this video and something got messed up, or erased.)
WARNING: Computers were broken during the filming of this video.
Products I used:
REVLON Eye Shadow Quad, Brazen

January 18, 2013 at 10:43 pmCan’t thank you enough for this tutorial and for your love of brown eyes! As a brown-eyed girl, I have also felt overlooked by the bright blue eyed and green eyed ladies of the world. I even had someone ask me if I had pupils (because my eyes are so dark). Thanks for making those of us with brown eyes feel special!

January 19, 2013 at 6:56 amI was wondering the same about your nail polish! Love it!

January 19, 2013 at 7:42 amYes, please do an everyday green eyed tutorial for your green eyed followers. I would love to learn how to make my eyes pop. I have learned so much by stalking your videos. Ha. Thanks!!!

January 19, 2013 at 8:11 amI’m dying for the green-eyed one, too! The bad thing about most of the tutorials I’ve seen for green eyes is that they focus on the cool-toned greens. I’m golden/spring green and most of those looks absolutely don’t work on me. I’m looking forward to your take… I LOVE your blog.

January 19, 2013 at 12:44 pmWhat type of contacts are you wearing in this video. Expressions or impressions? And are they the same you wore on the JLo tutorial? They look darker. I absolutely love your videos.

January 19, 2013 at 1:38 pmI’m not even a brown-eyed girl (can’t wait for the green tutorial!), but I think this would look great on girls with every eye color. You’re a gem for doing these videos and thanks for breaking down the lip liner application!

January 19, 2013 at 2:39 pmThat’s so funny, I have brown eyes and have always desperately longed for blue! When I was pregnant I use to say I don’t mind a boy or a girl but I want them to have their fathers blue eyes, and both do! Anyway, thanks, I always appreciate help that make my brown eyes a bit more exciting!

January 19, 2013 at 5:09 pmOkay, so is the Covergirl liner that you are using on your lips an eyeliner? Whatever, it looks wonderful!!!! and thank you so much for your fabulous videos, I absolutely love them….

January 19, 2013 at 5:22 pmI just ordered the contacts in Pure Hazel (I naturally have light blue eyes)! I can’t wait to try them out – I’ve wanted to for years, but was always too scared… I trust you, so I’m taking the leap 😉 Now I just need to do some hazel eye makeup research for tips! Question…. how many hours at a time would you say you can wear yours before they start to irritate you? THANKS!!

January 19, 2013 at 7:48 pmYessss! I’ve been waiting for this! Absolutely gorgeous!

January 19, 2013 at 8:06 pmLove love loved the video! Quick Q how do you touch up your make up I have super oily skin and I use rice paper to blot my face I then apply primer and then I apply foundation and I HAC and set with make up forever hd powder (everything I use is oil free) but 2 hours later I’m oily so I blot my face and then makeup comes off and I look spotty so I just end up completely redoing my makeup. So how would you recommend touching up makeup thought the day?

January 19, 2013 at 9:49 pmI have just found your blog and absolutely LOVE it!!! I’m wondering if you would consider teaching a more hands on class? I have a group of friends that get together each month and thought it would be a ton of fun to have someone like you teach us a class on makeup. I live in Utah county…not sure where you are at?
Let me know if you might have any interest in doing this…I would pay you for your time. 🙂
Thanks,
Carrie

January 20, 2013 at 11:29 amI thought I was the only one, haha. I’ve always wanted brown eyes, everyone in my family had them and now that I have kids they all have their daddy’s too. They really suit you!

January 20, 2013 at 12:53 pmWhat a beautiful look! You’re so gorgeous. 🙂 You should definitely create a make-up tutorial for us blue-eyed girls out there, too! 🙂

January 20, 2013 at 7:35 pmYou have big beautiful eyes! I am jealous! I was wondering if you have any suggestions to make my eyes look bigger. I have small eyes and after makeup application they seem even smaller. Frustrating!
Also, do you use a foundation primer?
Thank you!!
erica
January 20, 2013 at 8:34 pmI love this post but I have to admit I have NO clue what you’re doing with the foundation? Do you start with clean face then hac, THEN put on foundation?

January 21, 2013 at 9:51 amDid you dye your hair recently? It looks like there is some blonde. I love it. I dyed mine really dark, but miss having a little lighter color in it. Can you tell me, did you just get blonde highlights or weave it in? It looks great.

January 22, 2013 at 9:01 amJust found you on Pinterest and your video was SO helpful. I am new to all things makeup and many of your tips are ones I’ve never seen before. My lips are similar to yours, so I might have to use that lip shadowing technique. Keep the vids coming!

January 23, 2013 at 2:41 pmI have brown eyes, but my complexion is pale with red blotchiness, and, to top it off, I have a very oily T on my face and am prone to breakouts. I don’t wear make up much, but I’m getting married and am looking for a natural looking full coverage make up that will photograph well (no shinies).

February 4, 2013 at 6:49 amThis is a gorgeous look! I don’t wear a lot of eye make up because my eyes ALWAYS look tiny with eyeliner. Can you make more of an everyday brown-eyed look, please!?!?!I can never figure out what color of blush looks great with brown eyes.

February 6, 2013 at 3:46 amYou have such amazing tutorials! I would love a brown-eyed, dark brown hair, with FAIR skin tutorial. You have such beautiful bronzed skin. I always look for magazine inspirations, but most of the FAIR skin tutorials feature light blue eyes or green eyes. Anyway thanks for all your inspirations!

February 10, 2013 at 4:03 pmI’m finally getting a Lorac pro palate and was wondering which colors on it you would use for the brown eyes instead of the Revlon noted here.

March 17, 2013 at 6:02 pmUh… so I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I found your blog last night and spent almost three hours reading as many of your posts as I could. I’m so glad I found this one. I tried it out today. I work in fast food and most days I don’t feel it’s worth it to even brush my hair before work. It’s all going under a hat anyway. Today I decided I’d try out this look! I’m amazed at how much feeling a little sexier helped my attitude! And it only took like two minutes (I skipped all the flawless parts…) Awesome blog. I love this.

March 24, 2013 at 2:22 pmIs it just me or is anyone else having problems finding the Hard Candy Moon Glow powder? I have looked at three Walmarts & online & I can’t find it. Where did you find it Cara?
P.s. I love your blog & think you are amazing!!!

April 1, 2013 at 7:39 pmOk awesome tutorial, always love the looks geared for eye color. One thing though about buying contacts online…I’m an optometrist in Texas, and here it’s considered illegal for outside vendors to sell colored contacts to people without a in person fitting/prescription (doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen =\). I checked out the site, and it says the lenses are FDA approved and can be worn up to 90 days. If that’s true, the lens they’re marketing is a much older brand and not the safest out there. If you want the best option for eye health (I.e. avoid an infection or corneal ulcer that can be sight threatening) I’d go for Freshlook 1-day colors that come in the 4 most popular colors and are available in 10 packs at about a $1 a pair. Yes, having to go through a Contact lens fit and exam is more cost up front, but it’s important to make sure the lens fits and how to care for them in case something happens.
Ok I’m off my soapbox, I just wanted to make sure your eyes are safe!
